WHICH GAGE TO USE ON YOUR PART

Standard GagesWhen the part to be gaged has a relatively large strain area, the "Bar" gage is usually selected due to its minimum cost, however when a very high resistance is required, it is less expensive to use a "U" or "M" gage.
For miniature parts it may be necessary for the leads to come off in the same direction because of limited room so the "U" or "M" gage may be more applicable.
Miniature parts often have miniature strain areas (compliant sections) and also a minimum resistance requirement. The "U" gage with comparable resistivity has twice the resistance of the bar gage with the same length and will meet this requirement.
Similarly, the "M" gage has four times the resistance over the same length.
